1 Background
The HKUST Physics Laboratory project is located in Nansha, Guangzhou. REPSUN provides smart GSM for these 4 distinct laboratories: Center for Materials Characterization and Preparation, Central Laboratory for NFF (GZ)
Micro-Nano System Manufacturing, Central Laboratory for Bio-Inspired Engineering (BIO-IERF) and Central Chip Laboratory. As a special research area of HKUST(GZ), it faces three main installation challenges: constrained on-site installation space, a strict requirement to keep the grounding resistance under 1Ω, and strong electromagnetic interference caused by high-power loads and densely arranged equipment.

2 REPSUN Solution
To ensure the lightning protection safety of core precision laboratory equipment, REPSUN applies smart GSM16 and smart GSM36 devices at key lightning protection points. The core advantages of the devices are as follows: they monitor grounding resistance values in real time 24 hours a day. An early warning will be triggered immediately once any abnormality is detected, keeping the laboratory’s independent grounding system in optimal operating condition at all times. This minimizes the risk of damage caused by lightning strikes.

3 Project Achievement
Smart GSM16 and smart GSM36 have achieved remarkable results in the Frontier Lab at HKUST(GZ). Firstly, featuring a compact, integrated and all-in-one structural design, the device can flexibly adapt to the narrow installation space of the laboratory and realize reasonable layout at key lightning protection points. Secondly, with 24/7 real-time monitoring capability, Smart GSM16 and smart GSM36 keeps the grounding
resistance steadily within 1 Ω, fully meeting the strict specifications of the laboratory for independent grounding system and ensuring the grounding system operates in good condition at all times. In addition, the device delivers excellent anti-interference performance. It can effectively resist the impact of high-power loads and electromagnetic interference generated by densely arranged equipment, ensuring long-term stable system operation and providing reliable lightning protection for core precision equipment.
